Giant Days
It's extremely early Wednesday morning and the work never stops, so let's get a newsletter out. Comics! Some are written by me! Some are part of the Venom War! Let's dive in!
WHAT'S OUT TODAY?
Giant-Size Thor #1, that's what!
This one's a mix of fun and EXTREME METAL, courtesy of artist Brian Level, who dove in with both feet to help me deliver twenty pages of a literal Giant-Size Thor. Over the next few months, we're going to be drawing on classic Thor tales of old, and this is part of that - but for this one-shot, we're also calling back to a classic Herc tale from his first mini-series. (I think it's the second one that's set in the future - this one had Frankie Raye being herald of Galactus, contemporaneous to when she was, so I assumed it was set in the Marvel present and just set in space. Am I wrong? If so, well, that's why no-prizes were invented - it does readers good to have a nice continuity snarl to chew on occasionally, makes for strong teeth and bones.) Picking out a Thor tale to reprint in the back half was tough - the Ragnarok we refer to is very much episode four of six - but Herc was on hand to save us again as the guest star of Thor #356, by Bob Harras and Butch Guice.
Meanwhile, the Venom War rages on with Venom War: Carnage #1, by Torunn Grønbekk and Pere Perez - featuring everyone's favorite red gooey maniac (and Cletus!) doing a little pre-war investigation into the mysterious K-chemical. Fans of the recent Carnage book will enjoy similar levels of mayhem here, including at least one bit of symbiote business that's properly nightmarish...
Also out today - Venom War: Venomous #1, by the dream team of Erica Schultz and Luciano Vecchio. This is where you go to find what Black Widow and her new symbiote friend are getting up to - and is that Flash Thompson, Agent Anti-Venom I see? Two great spy tastes that spy great together, and there's a lot to spy on down in the Alchemax labs...
I'D STAY LONGER, BUT IT'S FOUR IN THE MORNING
Gotta get my eight hours! Five hours. Well, four and a half. Love and strength to all those who need it, and I'll play us out with "Song For A Seagull" by Teleman.
